The College Football Playoff is about to triple.

The College Football Playoff has released its official schedule for quarterfinal and semifinal games through the 2031 season. 

This long-term plan provides clarity for fans, teams, and bowl organizers as the 12-team playoff format continues.

All games beyond the opening round will rotate among traditional CFP bowl sites, maintaining the excitement of the postseason while respecting key calendar dates.

A 12-team College Football Playoff was for the first time in 2024. Along with eight additional teams, it will offer a new format with a chance to give some teams postseason matchups at their home stadiums.

The expanded playoff has increased the importance of bowl hosting rights. Notable adjustments include shifting the first 2026 quarterfinal to December 30 to avoid direct competition with the NFL on New Year’s Eve. 

The Rose Bowl will continue to prioritize its traditional January 1 slot and will not host semifinals for the next several years. A two-week break between quarterfinals and semifinals is also planned for the 2026-27 and 2027-28 seasons.
