Thailand wins International Crown LPGA Event, Prize Money

Thailand sweeps Australia to claim the International Crown 2023, outclassing the eight-team field, Purse Payout for each golfer.

When Ariya Jutanugarn triumphed at the British Women's Open in 2016, she helped establish Thailand as a rising force in women's golf.

Ariya Jutanugarn received the MVP award after winning all five matches with her sister Moriya Jutanugarn, while 20-year-old Atthaya Thitikul completed an ideal weekend by birdieing the 16th hole to give Thailand the victory over Australia in the International Crown team match play competition.

Thitikul defeated Stephanie Kyriacou 4-2 to raise her week record to 5-0 and secure the winning point in the championship match. In the other singles match, Patty Tavatanakit had previously defeated Hannah Green 4 and 3.

Ariya Jutanugarn holed out a chip shot from the edge of the green on the 15th hole to help the Jutanugarns defeat Minjee Lee and Sarah Kemp 4 and 3. Thailand, the sixth-seeded team, concluded the week by winning 11 of 12 matches.

In the third-place game, the United States defeated Sweden.

Teams of four players from eight different nations are divided into two pools for the match-play competition known as The International Crown. Two singles matches and one alternate-shot match were the semifinal's format, which the top two teams from each pool proceeded to.

  • Each member of the winning team received $125,000 in prize money, while the second-place team received $75,900.

  • A total of 32 players were in the field, representing the following countries: United States, South Korea, Japan, Sweden, England, Thailand, Australia and China.

  • It was a breakthrough weekend for Thailand, which had never finished better than fourth in the first three editions of this tournament.
