French Open 2023: Sabalenka powers into French second round in win over Ukrain's Marta Kostyuk.

Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus defeated Marta Kostyuk of Ukraine 6-3, 6-2 to go to the second round of the French Open on Sunday.

However, some spectators in the crowd were jeering, which confused Sabalenka.

After the game, Kostyuk declined to shake hands with her opponent, causing some jeers and boos.



She had previously stated that she would not do so with Russian and Belarusian players owing to Moscow's invasion of its neighbour.

Ukraine's Marta Kostyuk said "people should be embarrassed" after she was booed off court following her first-round defeat by Belarusian Aryna.

As Kostyuk struggled in the hot Parisian heat, second-seeded Sabalenka dominated the opening set in front of a sparse Court Philippe Chatrier audience.

She then pounced in the second set with an early break and another to go up 4-1.



She will face fellow Belarusian Iryna Shymanovich, a qualifer, in the second round in Paris.
