LSU Tigers Win First Women's Basketball Title in School History

LSU Tigers crushed Iowa Hawkeyes 102-85 by record score to win their first NCAA Women's Tournament title..

In the national championship game on Sunday, Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes were defeated by Kim Mulkey's LSU Tigers 102-85 thanks to a record offensive effort. This was the first basketball championship in school history.

Mulkey became the first women's coach to win national championships at two different institutions thanks to the triumph.

Before leaving for LSU two years ago, she won three awards at Baylor.

The fiery and colourful Mulkey, who wore a sparkling golden tiger-striped suit, has already won four crowns in her career, which puts her behind Pat Summitt and Geno-Auriemma in terms of most victories.

Mulkey has never suffered a defeat in a title game. LSU's standout tournament performer Angel-Reese finished the game with 15 points and 10 rebounds. For LSU, Jasmine Carson had 22 points and Alexis Morris had 21.

Clark set the record for the most points ever scored in a single NCAA tournament for either men or women (191).

Early in the third quarter, Iowa was down by 21 points when they started making shots from outside. They went on a 15-2 run, making four three-pointers and converting a three-point play to close the gap to 65-57.

As Clark was given a technical foul with 1:03 remaining in the third quarter, the Hawkeyes were down 73-64. After a teammate was called for a foul, she whacked the ball away from the court.

She received her fourth personal foul of the contest for that act. Despite having four fouls and playing the whole fourth quarter, Clark couldn't help the Hawkeyes move any closer.

Mulkey and Reese hugged as the last seconds passed, igniting the Tigers' frenzied celebration.
