List of Calder Cup Winners: Past Champions, History Since 1937

AHL Calder Cup Past Champions: Full List of Winners by year, History Since 1937

List of Calder Cup champions: The Calder Cup, the American Hockey League’s ultimate prize, is named after the National Hockey League’s first president, Frank Calder.

The first winners of the Calder Cup were the Syracuse Stars in 1937 during the AHL’s first season.

Mr. Calder was instrumental in the formation of the AHL in the mid-1930’s and served as president of the NHL until his death in 1943.

This is also not the only award to be named in Calder’s honor – the Calder Memorial Trophy has been awarded to the NHL Rookie of the Year since the 1936-37 season.

The Calder Cup, which gained its current design in 2001, is awarded annually to the AHL playoff champion.

The names of the players, coaches and support staff from the 20 most recent winners adorn the base; the plaques containing all previous years’ champions are on display at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.

The Chicago Wolves are the most recent Calder Cup champions after the 2021-22 AHL Playoffs Finals win 4-1 over the Springfield Thunderbirds.

Who won the Last Calder Cup: 2022 Calder Cup Winner.?

The Chicago Wolves captured the third Calder Cup championship 2022 in franchise history after defeating the Springfield Thunderbirds 4-0 in Game 5.

The win gave the Wolves a 4-1 series win in the AHL championship.

The Thunderbirds won the first game of the series 6-5 in overtime but the Wolves then won four straight games — outscoring Springfield 18-4 in those wins, with two shutouts.
