2024 NIT Tournament Bracket: Schedule, Scores, Date Times, TV Info

NIT bracket 2024: Tournament schedule, men's basketball scores, dates, Tip times, tv channels, how to watch, history

The 32-team field for the 2024 NIT was announced Sunday with action beginning Tuesday at campus sites. Seton Hall, Wake Forest, Indiana State, and Villanova secured No. 1 seeds. The tournament will culminate in Indianapolis, Indiana, with semifinals on April 2 and the championship game on April 4.

This will be the first year of a new-look NIT. The top two teams from the NET rankings from each of the major six conferences (ACC, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, Pac-12, SEC) that did not qualify for the NCAA Tournament will earn the first 12 NIT automatic bids and have the right to host first-round games.

Multiple high-major programs such as Oklahoma, Pitt, St. John's, and Indiana all declined an invitation to the NIT after missing out on the NCAA Tournament. Last year, preseason No. 1 North Carolina declined an invitation.

Indianapolis will host in 2024. The tournament has been played every year (except for 2020) since 1938. North Texas won the 2023 NIT with a 68-61 victory over UAB. Here is the completed bracket and results from 2023:

What is the NIT Tournament?

The National Invitational Tournament was founded in 1938, one year before the men’s NCAA Tournament was first held.

From its origin until the mid-1950s, the NIT generally had a better field and more prestige than the NCAA Tournament. Nowadays, it is the second-tier competition compared to the national tournament.
