USA sweeps Uzbekistan to Advance to Davis Cup Finals 2023

The United States Davis Cup finished a 4-0 Qualifier sweep on Saturday in Uzbekistan, completing the first step in its quest to win a competition record breaking Davis Cup 32 time winners will seeks for the 33rd title.


After Tommy Paul and Mackenzie McDonald won their singles matches on Friday to give Team USA a 2-0 lead, Rajeev Ram and Austin Krajicek won their doubles match on Day 2 in Tashkent to give the travelling Americans the tie.

The Americans defeated Sanjar Fayziev and Sergey Fomin of Uzbekistan, dropping just two points on serve, to secure their place in the Davis Cup Finals by Rakuten group stage, which will take place in September after the US Open.

In the fourth and final match of the weekend, Denis Kudla made a winning Davis Cup debut with a 6-4, 6-4 result against 17-year-old Amir Milushev.








In their matchup with Sanjar Fayziev and Sergey Fomin of Uzbekistan, the formidable team of No. 3-ranked Rajeev Ram and No. 9-ranked Austin Krajicek never really faced any serious threat.

The American duo dominated at the Olympic Tennis School in Tashkent, winning 6-2, 6-4 in just 52 minutes.


“The first step is to actually qualify and that’s what we’ve done, but we don’t really look further than that and well done to everybody that was involved in this process and we look forward to the next steps.”



The previous day, Mackenzie McDonald, a Davis Cup rookie, earned the first point for the USA by defeating Fomin 6-4, 6-1, but Tommy Paul, the world's No. 19, had to rally from a set down to beat Khumoyun Sultanov.

Nainkin isn't planning too far ahead, despite this. He explained, "It's one step at a time.

On the second day's fourth match, two Davis Cup rookies faced off, with Denis Kudla of the United States defeating Amir Milushev 6-4, 6-4.
