Davis Cup 2023 Qualifiers: Cacic and Krajinovic Leads, Serbia Sweeps Norway 4-0 booked into Cup Finals.
To win the doubles match and guarantee Serbia's spot in the 2023 Davis-Cup by Rakuten Finals, Nikola-Cacic and Filip-Krajinovic held off a valiant effort from Viktor-Durasovic and Herman-Hoeyeraal.
In one hour and 44 minutes, the Serbian pair won 6-4 3-6 6-3 to give their team a commanding 3-0 lead. Then, on his Davis Cup debut, Hamad-Medjedovic defeated Durasovic 6-4 6-7(4) [10-4] to complete the Serbian clean sweep.
The Serbian had to save a match point in the final set tiebreak in order to defeat Laslo-Djere on Friday due to the absence of world No. 4 Norwegian Casper Ruud.
Hoeyraal, who is unranked in singles and doubles and was competing in his first DavisCup match, played well on Saturday as did world No. 362, who performed well once more.
Cacic and Krajinovic took an early lead in the first set thanks to a break in the seventh game, but the Norwegians fought back at the start of the second set, winning the first three games and maintaining their advantage the entire time to tie the match.
Unfortunately for the home supporters, this did not signal the start of a stirring comeback. The Serbians had a chance to take the lead right away thanks to a sloppy service game from Durasovic in the second game of the decider.
To the delight of the boisterous Serbian contingent in the stands, they didn't look back, with Cacic serving out a few games later.
- The Norwegians are likely to be back at this stage before long –
- The Serbia, the quest to get their hands on the Davis Cup trophy once again has begun in earnest
