Mbappe shines, France beat Poland 3-1 reach the quarterfinals

  • Olivier Giroud became France's all-time men's record goalscorer as his opener lead and Kylian Mbappe's second-half brace gave the reigning World Cup champions a 3-1 win over Poland to move them into the quarter-finals.

Mbappe added a second goal for France in the 74th minute, and he added a brilliant third goal in extra time to give France a total of five goals in Qatar, two more than any other player at the competition.

In order to prevent Hugo Lloris from keeping a clean sheet on his record-tying 142nd appearance for France, Robert-Lewandowski scored a retaken penalty in the 99th minute to give Poland a late consolation.
