The Arizona Wildcats will play their first bowl game since 2017 in the Valero Alamo Bowl against the Oklahoma Sooners to wrap head coach Jedd Fisch’s third season of his rebuild.


In the Alamo Bowl, the Wildcats face a departing Big 12 team in No. 12 Oklahoma, which went 10-2 this season with losses to Kansas and Oklahoma State. Oklahoma notably beat the then-No. 3 Texas Longhorns, who finished 12-1 and made the College Football Playoff.


Both programs will be playing in the Valero Alamo Bowl for only the second time in their history. Arizona previously played in the 2010 bowl game versus Oklahoma State, losing 38-10 as the Cowboys and quarterback Brandon Weeden outdueled the Wildcats and QB Nick Foles.

Oklahoma’s only other Valero Alamo Bowl appearance came in 2021 when it defeated Oregon 47-32 in an offensive shootout.

In the Valero Alamo Bowl 2022, No. 12 Washington defeated No. 21 Texas 27-20 thanks to a 287-yard touchdown pass from Michael-Penix, Jr.

With 1:40 left, Texas scored 10 late points to close the gap to seven, but an attempt at an onside kick was unsuccessful.

On their next possession, the Longhorns (8-5) stopped the Huskies (11-2), took over at their own 16 with 32 seconds left in the game, and eventually made it to the Washington 40 on the game's final play.
