Toronto Argonauts wins 1st Grey Cup title since 2017

Grey Cup 2022: Toronto Argonauts thrashed Winnipeg Blue Bombers to win 1st Grey Cup title since 2017.




Robbie Smith last minutes field goal blockage helps as the Toronto Argonauts denied The Winnipeg Blue Bombers Three-Peat in the 109th Grey Cup at Mosaic Stadium on Sunday evening by the final score of 24-23.



The Argos scored first with a field goal from Boris Bede at 10:16 in a close, defensive first quarter.

When Toronto was called for too many men on the field in the second quarter, the Bombers were forced into a third-and-goal situation, and Dakota Prukop punched the ball into the end zone.



With a 36-yard field goal from Bede and a 45-yard field goal from Bombers' Marc Liegghio, Winnipeg led 10-7 at the half.

Late in the third quarter, Bomber quarterback Zach Collaros orchestrated a strong drive that resulted in a second touchdown from Prukop, giving Winnipeg the lead back, 17-14.

A.J. Ouellette's second touchdown of the game gave Toronto the lead after backup quarterback Chad Kelly completed a pass to him. The Toronto Argonauts held on to win, 24-23, as the Bombers came within kicking distance but had their attempt blocked.

Toronto Argonauts linebacker Henoc Muamba has been named the 109th Grey Cup’s 2022 Most Valuable Player and Most Valuable Canadian.

In the fourth quarter of the game, Muamba had three tackles, one pass deflection, and a crucial interception that helped his team defeat the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 24-23.

Argos players earned $16,000 for the victory while Bombers players will receive $8,000 apiece.

Toronto will celebrate the 18th Grey Cup in franchise history on Thursday with a public rally at Maple Leaf Square.

The Bombers were attempting to become the first CFL team to win three straight Grey Cups since Edmonton captured five consecutive titles (1978-82). But Failed.

It's Toronto's first Grey Cup win since 2017, when they defeated the Calgary Stampeders.
