Phillies 5-run downs to wins the World Series Game 1 over Astros

Phillies down 5-run deficit to clinch Game 1 of World Series in extras over Astros.

The Philadelphia Phillies came back from a 5-0 deficit to defeat the Houston Astros 6-5 in Game 1 of the World Series on Friday at Minute Maid Park.

J.T. Realmuto delivered the decisive blow in the 10th inning, hitting a solo homer off Luis Garcia.

When Jose Altuve was on 2nd base and Jeremy Pena was batting, Philadelphia outfielder Nick Castellanos stole a bloop hit from him to force extra innings.

After Houston swept the New York Yankees in the World Series and the Seattle Mariners in the American League Division Series, the victory put an end to the Astros' undefeated postseason run. The Astros are now 7-1 this postseason. Before Friday, they had not lost since losing to the Phillies on October 3 in a regular season game with Aaron Nola starting.

Despite having a legendary career, Justin Verlander has never won a World Series on his own, and this trend continued on Friday. With an early 5-0 lead, the two-time Cy Young winner appeared set to win his first Fall Classic match.
