T20 World Cup 2022: Sri Lanka & Netherlands qualify for Super 12 group stage after shock UAE win over Namibia.





Sri Lanka beats Dutch team qualifies for S12, while despite Netherlands defeat qualified for Super 12 stage of the Men's T20 World Cup, due to UAE outclass Namibia following a thrilling conclusion to Group A.



Mendis' 79, spinners leads Sri Lanka beat Netherlands advance into Super 12s, Scorecard



Before their spinners took care of Netherlands, Sri Lanka rode Kusal Mendis' superb 79 off 44 to reach 162 for 6 on a slow surface. Wanindu Hasaranga was in excellent wicket-taking form before to the tournament's main draw.

Even though Netherlands was never actually in the lead, opener Max O'Dowd kept them in the game by reducing the number of runs needed in the final over—23—after Maheesh Theekshana's careless 19th, which cost 16 runs.

However, seamer Lahiru Kumara maintained his composure in the last surge, and Sri Lanka won by 16 runs and advanced to the next round.

Wiese put up a heroic half-century of resistance but was bowled out in the last over as Namibia lost.

Despite David Wiese and Ruben Trumpelmann scoring 80 runs in 56 balls for the eighth wicket after Namibia had been reduced to 69 for seven, the UAE won.

Due to Wiese's dismissal off the fourth ball of the final over, which was bowled by Muhammad Waseem, Namibia was unable to complete the necessary 14 runs.


The Netherlands, who will advance to the Super12s in second place alongside Sri Lanka, are particularly interested in the outcome because Namibia, despite being the favourite, was eliminated. UAE will also leave the competition, but they will have earned some points.
