Conway 92* New Zealand thrash Australia in T20 WC Super 12 opener

T20 World Cup 2022: New Zealand defeats Australia in Super 12 opener won by 89 runs, Scores.




Devon Conway hit an unbeaten 92 as New Zealand claimed a comprehensive 89-run win over hosts Australia at the T20 World Cup 2022.



  • Victory at the Sydney Cricket Ground was the Black Caps' first over their Trans-Tasman rivals in Australia in any format since 2011.

  • It was also Australia's heaviest defeat in a T20 World Cup and their second largest of all time in the 20-over format.



With his numbers, Tim Southee (3/6) was the one who set off Australia's decline.

With his spell, Mitchell Santner (3/31) controlled the middle phase. The tail was taken care of by Trent Boult (2/24) Prior to being given the opportunity to bat first by Australia, New Zealand amassed 200/3 with the help of Devon Conway (92*) and Finn Allen (42).

Allen and Conway's opening partnership produced 56 runs off of just 25 balls.



Finn made a 42 on a 16-ball. Conway and captain Kane Williamson then shared a productive second-wicket stand of 69 runs (23).

James Neesham's 13-ball 26 helped New Zealand finish well.

In just 24 balls, Conway and Neeshan put up an unbroken 48 runs for the fourth wicket.
