Curran's heroic 5wkst England begin T20 WorldCup with Afghan win

T20 World Cup 2022: Sam Curran takes five wickets as England beat Afghanistan in opener won by 5 wickets.




  • England's bowlers, Especially Sam Curran helps to set up a five-wicket victory over Afghanistan as Jos Buttler's side made a winning start to the 2022 T20 World Cup in Perth.



Sam Curran put on a fantastic bowling effort, supported by an incredible catching performance, to take 5-10 — England's first five-wicket haul in men's T20s.

After Mark Wood and Ben Stokes each took two wickets as Afghanistan was bowled out for 112 in 19.4 overs, Curran captured four wickets in six balls in the end.



However, England's fielding was also noteworthy, with wicketkeeper Jos Buttler's diving one-handed grab and Adil Rashid's excellent high catch serving as the highlights.

The mark was never going to be defendable, but England's batting order struggled in the chase, falling to 97-5 against Afghanistan's spin-heavy attack.

England triumphed with 11 balls left thanks in large part to Liam Livingstone, who finished 29 unbeaten.
