Ireland battled to 61-4 in the 10th over after Michael Jones' 86 helped the Scots reach 176-5.
However, Curtis Campher and George Dockrell collaborated on a scorching 119-run stand to get Ireland home with one over remaining.
Campher was underutilised in an unimpressive Irish bowling performance, taking 2-9 from two overs with his nimble medium-pace, but he went on to contribute meaningfully with the bat.
He finished unbeaten on 72 from 32 balls, while Dockrell added 39 from 27, helping Ireland achieved their highest successful chase at a T20 World Cup.

Alzarri Joseph shone as West Indies defeated Zimbabwe by 31 runs to keep their Men's T20 World Cup aspirations alive.
With 10 balls remaining in Hobart, fast bowler Joseph took 4-16 to assist in the dismissal of Zimbabwe for 122.
The Windies had earlier reached 153-7 after losing four wickets for 11 runs during a mid-innings collapse.
With Ireland's victory over Scotland earlier on Thursday, all four teams in Group B now have two points.
