  • When the Montreal Canadiens drafted Juraj Slafkovsky in the first round of the NHL draft on Thursday night, he became the first player from Slovakia to do so.



The first round of the 2022 NHL Draft will take place on Thursday, July, at Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, beginning at 7 p.m. ET. With the first overall pick going to the Montreal Canadiens, Kingston centre Shane Wright has the best odds to be selected first at -195.



The New Jersey Devils then signed Simon Nemec, a defenseman from Slovakia, even though they already had a depth chart for the centre position.

Center After the Arizona Coyotes selected American centre Logan Cooley at No. 3, Shane Wright, the top-ranked skater in North America, dropped to No. 4 with the Seattle Kraken.
