Verstappen came from 10th for victory at Hungarian GP, Hamilton 2nd

Hungarian Grand Prix: Max Verstappen wins the Hungary GP after starts at 10th, Hamilton, Russell on Podium, as Ferrari falter.

  • Max Verstappen produced a stunning comeback drive from 10th on the grid to win the Hungarian Grand Prix and extend his title lead over Charles Leclerc, following another miserable Sunday for the Ferrari driver.

Max Verstappen negotiates a slightly slippery final lap as the intensity of the rain increases, and sees the chequered flag for a brilliant victory from 10th on the grid!

Lewis Hamilton comes home in second, with pole-sitter George Russell third.

It's a repeat of the podium we saw at last week's French GP!

  • That's an eighth victory in 13 races for Max Verstappen this season.

  • The Dutchman is surging towards a second successive world championship!

Verstappen now has an 80-point advantage over Leclerc with nine races left. Given Red Bull's consistency and Ferrari's unreliability, this margin appears insurmountable.

On a gloomy, windy, and cool day, a race that was riveting from beginning to end, involving different strategy and the persistent danger of rain, served as the ideal metaphor for the season thus far.

Carlos Sainz was fourth and Leclerc sixth as Ferrari's season imploded.

Red Bull was strong and aggressive in their strategy, Verstappen was tenacious in pushing through the field from his lowly grid position—caused by engine issues—and Ferrari was shaky and unsteady as they converted second and third on the grid into neither driver finishing on the podium.
