Wimbledon 2022: Ons Jabeur to face Elena Rybakina in final for the first time Grand Slam title






  • History makers Ons Jabeur and Elena Rybakina will meet in the Wimbledon final after the pair claimed impressive victories in the last four.



The third-seed Ons Jabeur, will face world number 23 Rybakina on Centre Court in a matchup of two first-time Grand Slam finalists. Rybakina is the fourth-lowest rated woman to reach the Wimbledon final since 1984.





Ons Jabeur, first Arab & African women advanced to Grand Slam final in open era.




  • Ons Jabeur advanced to her first Grand Slam final by beating Tatjana Maria 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 on Centre Court at Wimbledon in a victory that is also a first for Arab and African women.


The Tunisian is the first African woman and the first Arab woman in the Open era to make it to a major final.

Jabeur twice broke her 34-year-old German opponent, a first-time Grand Slam semifinalist, in the decisive set on her way to a 5-0 advantage.

Maria, who was ranked 103rd, was playing in her 35th major competition and had never advanced past the third round.





Rybakina stuns Halep is the youngest & first Kazakhstan player to reach grand slam final at Wimbledon.




  • On Centre Court, Elena Rybakina upset 2019 winner Simona Halep 6-3, 6-3 to advance to the Wimbledon championship match against Ons Jabeur.


First-time Grand Slam finalists Rybakina, the 17th seed, and Jabeur, the third seed, are both.



Rybakina is the first athlete from Kazakhstan to advance to a major final. In the Open era, Jabeur is the first African woman and the first Arab woman to make it to a major final.



The youngest Wimbledon finalist since Garbie Muguruza's defeat by Serena Williams in 2015 is 23-year-old Rybakina.

The 2018 French Open winner, Halep, was broken early in both sets despite making it to the semifinals without dropping a set.
