GB face Mexico,Canada tough away Serbia in FedCup play-off tie

Women's Tennis: GB face Mexico, Canada tough away Serbia in Fed Cup 2020 play-offs tie.

Great Britain and Canada have both been drawn away to face Mexico and Serbia respectively in the 2020 Fed Cup by BNP Paribas play-offs.

Anne Keothavong's team failed to reach this year's inaugural Fed Cup Finals by losing a qualifying tie to Slovakia last weekend.

If they win in Mexico they will get the chance to qualify for the 2021 Finals but if they lose they will be relegated to the Europe/Africa zone that is notoriously difficult to get out of.

Canada faces a tough prospect against a passionate Serbian team that tends to rise to the occasion on home soil. Both teams have met twice in the past 10 years and both times the Serbian side has won the matches.

Japan was drawn at home to Ukraine in what could be a mouthwatering clash should both Naomi Osaka and Elina Svitolina make the trip to Asia.
The Japanese were soundly beaten by Spain in the Fed Cup Qualifiers at the weekend, while Ukraine battled past hosts Estonia in the Europe/Africa Group I event in Tallinn to win a place in the play-offs.

Romania will host Italy in another belter of an encounter. Simona Halep has previously said she intends to focus on the Tokyo 2020 Olympics this year, but even without their talismanic No. 1 the Romanians proved a handful for Russia in the Qualifiers.

Italy, a side that was so dominant in Fed Cup last decade, looked like they meant business in Europe/Africa Group I as Camila Giorgi and Jasmine Paolini led from the front.

Poland has been given a home tie to Brazil and Argentina will face Kazakhstan in what will likely be close-fought battles.

There were two ties in which losing Qualifier nations were drawn at home against the as-yet-unknown Asia/Oceania Group I winners.

Latvia and Netherlands will both host and they will find out their opponents when the Asia/Oceania Group I event takes place on 3-7 March in Dubai.

NOTE:

At the time of the draw, the Asia/Oceania Group I event had yet to be played. As such the draw took place with two spots as TBC for the nations advancing from Asia/Oceania Group I, which is being played in Dubai on 3-7 March.

When the Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Finals 2020 ties will be played:
