Major Changes for the 2026-27 Grand Slam of Curling Season
The upcoming season introduces several significant updates that will reshape how teams qualify and compete throughout the year.
New Satellite Event Qualification System
One of the biggest innovations for the 2026-27 season is the introduction of designated Grand Slam satellite events worldwide.
Teams can now secure direct entry into GSOC tournaments by winning approved satellite competitions on the international curling tour.
Key features include:
Satellite event champions receive automatic berths into one of the first four Grand Slam events.
If the winning team has already qualified, the spot passes to the runner-up or highest-placed semi-finalist.
The system creates additional opportunities for emerging teams to earn entry into elite-level competition.
This new pathway expands international participation and increases the competitive depth of Grand Slam fields.
Players’ Cup Qualification Updated
Qualification for the season-ending GSOC Players’ Cup will now be determined through a points-based system.
Points will be awarded from:
Grand Slam satellite events
GSOC Invitational
GSOC Masters
GSOC National
GSOC Open
At the end of the season:
The top 12 men's teams qualify.
The top 12 women's teams qualify.
This format ensures consistent performance throughout the season is rewarded.
