Border War Future Schedule: Colorado State vs Wyoming Full Dates, Venues, Through 2035

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The historic Border War rivalry will continue well into the next decade. Colorado State and Wyoming announced on Thursday an agreement to play eight additional football games between 2028 and 2035.The series will begin in 2028 and run through the 2035 season, with games alternating home campuses. Colorado State will host the Cowboys during the even-numbered years at Canvas Stadium.“The Border War rivalry game versus Wyoming is one of the oldest rivalries in the West dating back 125 years and features one of the most iconic trophies in college football,” said Colorado State Director of Athletics John Weber.

“The Boot Run with the game ball, the Border Ceremony, and the Bronze Boot Trophy all honor the values and rich ROTC history of both of our universities and will remain integral to this rivalry for years to come. This game is important to our universities, communities, and fans; and I am thrilled that this historic rivalry will continue.”

A Rivalry Built on History

Heading into the 2024 season, the two programs have met 115 times since 1899 and have played every year since 1946 — a streak of 78 consecutive seasons following World War II. The Border War ranks as the eighth-longest continuous series in FBS history and is the third-oldest rivalry west of the Mississippi River (behind Cal-Stanford and Oregon-Oregon State, and tied with Arizona-Arizona State).Colorado State and Wyoming will face each other for the final times as Mountain West Conference opponents on Nov. 15, 2024, in Fort Collins and again in Laramie in 2025. Colorado State is scheduled to join the Pac-12 in 2026. The series will be idle in 2026 and 2027 due to both programs having full non-conference schedules.“With all the changes in college football, it’s great to maintain a rivalry that has been played for 125 years,” said Colorado State head coach Jay Norvell. “It means so much to our fans and community that we continue this historic rivalry. The Story Behind the Bronze Boot

Since 1968, the winner of the Border War has received the Bronze Boot — a boot worn by Colorado State ROTC professor Captain Dan J. Romero during his service in the Vietnam War (1966–67). The boot was bronzed, mounted on a wooden base, and has served as the symbol of the rivalry for the past 56 games.Each year, members of the Colorado State and Wyoming ROTC detachments run portions of the 66-mile distance along U.S. Highway 287 and meet at the Colorado-Wyoming border to exchange the game ball.In the summer of 2021, the Bronze Boot was fully restored. The boot was sent to The Bronzery in Escondido, California, while the walnut base was refinished by Alpine Cabinets in Timnath, Colorado.
