Felix Rosenqvist Edges David Malukas in Closest Indianapolis 500 Finish in History

Felix Rosenqvist delivered a breathtaking outside pass on David Malukas in the final 50 feet to win the closest Indianapolis 500 in history by a margin of just 0.0233 seconds on Sunday.

The Final-Lap Showdown

Malukas looked set to claim victory after passing race leader Marcus Armstrong on the final restart with one lap to go. Meanwhile, Meyer Shank Racing teammates Rosenqvist and Armstrong were battling wheel-to-wheel down the backstretch and through the fourth turn. With remarkable composure, Rosenqvist found the extra speed to pull clear of Armstrong, then expertly tucked in behind Malukas before launching a decisive outside move in the dying moments of the race.

A New Record for Closeness

The finish shattered the previous record for the closest Indianapolis 500. In 1992, Al Unser Jr. beat Scott Goodyear by 0.043 seconds across the yard of bricks. Rosenqvist’s victory now stands as the narrowest margin in the race’s storied 115-year history.

A Special Victory for Rosenqvist

The win marks Rosenqvist’s second career IndyCar victory in 120 starts. It comes at an emotional time, just weeks after the birth of his first child. With this triumph, the Swede becomes the third driver from Sweden to win the Indianapolis 500.
