New York — President Donald Trump has confirmed he will attend a 2026 NBA Finals game as a guest of New York Knicks owner Jim Dolan.Trump made the announcement during a cabinet meeting at the White House on Wednesday, May 27, 2026. He revealed he had originally planned to attend Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals but adjusted his schedule after the Knicks swept the Cleveland Cavaliers in four games.“I think I’ll be going to one of the games,” Trump said. “I was invited by numerous people and Jim and I think I’ll be going.”This would mark the first time a sitting U.S. president attends an NBA Finals game. The Knicks are appearing in the NBA Finals for the first time since 1999. They are scheduled to host Games 3 and 4 at Madison Square Garden on June 8 and June 10, respectively.

Trump has been a regular presence at major sporting events during his second term, including the Super Bowl, the college football national championship, the Ryder Cup, the Daytona 500, multiple UFC events, and the U.S. Open men’s tennis final in New York last year. He also attended PGA Tour and LIV Golf events earlier this month.

The Knicks’ return to the Finals has generated massive excitement in New York, with high demand for tickets at Madison Square Garden. Trump’s attendance is expected to add even more spotlight to the series.
