Arsenal crowned Premier League champions for first time in 22 years after Man City draws with Bournemouth
Arsenal have finally ended their 22-year wait as well three-straight runners-up finishes for the Premier League title after Manchester City’s dramatic draw against Bournemouth confirmed Mikel Arteta’s side as champions of England once again.
City needed a victory on Tuesday night to keep the title race alive heading into the final weekend, but Junior Kroupi stunned the Etihad with a first-half strike before Erling Haaland’s stoppage-time equaliser proved too little, too late.
The result sparked emotional scenes across north London as Arsenal supporters gathered outside the Emirates Stadium to celebrate a historic triumph years in the making.
The last time Arsenal won the league was the 2003-04 season, when Arsene Wenger led the vaunted "Invincibles" side to an undefeated season.
For Arsenal fans, this is more than just another league title. It is the club’s first championship since Arsene Wenger’s legendary “Invincibles” side went unbeaten in 2003-04, ending an 8,060-day drought that saw rivals including Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Leicester City all lift the trophy while Arsenal repeatedly fell short.
This title feels especially significant because of the heartbreak Arsenal endured in recent seasons. Arteta’s team finished runners-up three consecutive times, twice watching Pep Guardiola’s relentless City side hunt them down during the closing weeks of the campaign. But this season, Arsenal finally held their nerve.
Built on defensive discipline, tactical maturity and deadly efficiency from set pieces, Arsenal have been the league’s most complete team. They conceded just 26 goals in 37 matches, kept 19 clean sheets and scored a remarkable 24 goals from set plays — including a Premier League-era record 18 from corners.
Arteta’s transformation of the club has now reached its defining moment. Since taking charge in 2019, the former Arsenal captain has rebuilt the squad around leaders like Declan Rice, Martin Ødegaard and Bukayo Saka, turning Arsenal from top-four hopefuls into champions again. Arteta also becomes the first former Premier League player to win the title as a manager.
The celebrations may only just be beginning. Arsenal still have the chance to complete the greatest season in the club’s history when they face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final on May 30, chasing a first-ever European crown.
Meanwhile, questions now surround Manchester City’s future after reports suggested Guardiola could leave the club at the end of the season. The Spaniard had hoped to deliver another title and a domestic treble, but Bournemouth’s resistance ultimately ended City’s reign at the top.
For Arsenal, though, this is the moment an entire generation of supporters has waited for. After years of frustration, near misses and rebuilding, the Premier League trophy is finally returning to north London.
