The medal sport of curling made its debut at the inaugural Olympic Winter Games, Chamonix 1924, with a men's team event, before rejoining the Olympic programme at Nagano 1998 with a men's and women's team event.

The sport was further expanded at PyeongChang 2018 with the introduction of mixed doubles, bringing the total number of medal events to three. 

Canada currently ranks as the most decorated nation in curling at the Olympics, with 11 medals, including six gold, followed by Sweden with nine medals, of which three are gold.

Only five other nations have ever been crowned Olympic champions.
