Davis Cup Finals 2025 | Spain fend off Germany in dramatic doubles victory to set up final against Italy

Davis Cup Finals | Spain edge Germany in dramatic tie to reach final against Italy

Spain are into the Davis Cup Final after a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Germany, proving they can win even without top players Carlos Alcaraz and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. The six-time champions will now face Italy for the title on Sunday, 23 November.

Carreno Busta gives Spain the lead

Pablo Carreno Busta started strongly for Spain, beating Jan-Lennard Struff 6-5, 7-6(6) in a match full of twists. Struff missed several chances to force a final set, while Carreno Busta saved set points and then stormed back from 1–6 down in the tiebreak to win seven points in a row and take the opening match.

Zverev responds to level the tie

Jaume Munar then had a chance to send Spain straight to the final, but he faced world No. 3 Alexander Zverev. Both sets were tight, and neither player could break away until the tiebreaks. Zverev used his experience to win 7-6(2), 7-6(5), forcing the tie into a deciding doubles match.

Granollers & Martinez deliver under pressure

Everything came down to the doubles, where Marcel Granollers and Pedro Martinez started brilliantly, racing to a 6-2 first set. The German pair Kevin Krawietz and Tim Putz fought back to take the second set, setting up a tense final. Spain broke early, held their nerve, and saved a late break point before converting their first match point to win 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.

Spain vs Italy for the title

Spain now advance to their first Davis Cup final since 2019. They are one win away from their seventh Davis Cup trophy, while Italy are aiming for a historic third consecutive title—a feat not seen in over 50 years.

The final will take place Sunday, 23 November, in Bologna.
