Late touchdown gives Roughriders dramatic win over Lions in Western Final, trip to 112th Grey Cup.
Touchdown Tommy Sends Riders Back to the Grey Cup
Touchdown Tommy Nield lived up to his nickname on Saturdcfay night — catching a three-yard touchdown pass from Trevor Harris with just 11 seconds left to give the Saskatchewan Roughriders a stunning 24–21 win over the B.C. Lions in the West Final.
The victory sends the Riders back to the Grey Cup for the first time since 2013, where they’ll face the defending champion Montreal Alouettes on Nov. 16 in Winnipeg.
Trailing 21–17 late in the fourth, Harris engineered a 74-yard drive capped by Nield’s clutch grab — which survived a tense command centre review. “That’s a play you dream about making,” said Nield, who joined the Riders this season after two Grey Cup wins with Toronto.
Head coach Corey Mace twice chose to take points instead of gambling on third down, trusting his defence — a decision that paid off when Saskatchewan forced a two-and-out to set up the final drive.
Harris finished 26-of-38 for 305 yards and two TDs, while A.J. Ouellette ran for 113 yards on 17 carries. Kian Schaffer-Baker also caught a touchdown, and Brett Lauther kicked three field goals.
For B.C., Nathan Rourke threw for 290 yards with one touchdown and two rushing scores but couldn’t finish the job in the final minute.
Rider Nation, get ready — the Green and White are heading back to the big show.
