Who is playing at Memorial Tournament: Full 72-man Field Breakdown

Scottie Scheffler headlines the field at the 2025 Memorial Tournament at at Muirfield Village, Dublin, OH.

The Memorial Tournament got its wish by moving one week earlier but lost out when Rory McIlroy and Jason Day said see you later.

The PGA Tour event, played May 29 to June 1 at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio, is back in its traditional Memorial Day week spot, which is where tournament host and founder Jack Nicklaus prefers it. Last year, the tour moved the Memorial later into June, one week before the U.S. Open, instead of its normal slot two weeks before America's national championship.

Another big positive? The 2024 Memorial champion and world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler returns to defend his title. The negatives? McIlroy, ranked No. 2, and local favorite Day have opted to skip the signature event, while former Ohio State golfer Neal Shipley is not eligible to compete on a sponsor exemption.

McIlroy, who last missed the Memorial in 2017, said before the season he wanted to cut back his playing schedule. Instead of the Memorial, he will play the Canadian Open June 5 to 8. Day said he is battling a sore wrist and so will miss the event for just the second time since 2008.

This year’s 72-player field includes eight of the top-10 ranked players in the world and four sponsor exemptions, who must be PGA Tour members: Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler, Matt Kuchar and Brandt Snedeker.

Rory McIlroy is skipping the 2025 Memorial Tournament and instead focusing on prepartions for the Canadian Open.

Shipley was not eligible for a sponsor exemption. The popular player who appears on the latest season of the Netflix documentary Full Swing is not a member of the tour, playing instead this season on the Korn Ferry Tour.

Who won the 2024 PGA Tour Memorial Tournament?

2024: Scottie Scheffler wins the Memorial, becoming the first golfer with five PGA Tour wins before the U.S. Open in a season since Tom Watson in 1980.

Scottie Scheffler continued his incredible springtime run in 2024 with a victory at the Memorial, his fifth triumph of the season. It came in difficult fashion, however, as Scheffler shot a final-round 2-over 74, his highest final round in two years.
