After finishing second in the Kentucky Derby, Journalism took home first place at the Preakness Stakes. Journalism was the odds on favorite to win the race and snuck through at the very last moment to cross the finish line ahead of Gosger by a half-length. Journalism's jockey, Umberto Rispoli, became the first Italian to win a Triple Crown race.
The win also gave Journalism's trainer, Michael W. McCarthy, his second victory at the Preakness Stakes
This was the second time in the past four years the Derby winner opted out of the short two-week turnaround time between races, with Sovereignty joining Rich Strike in 2022.
