Miami Dolphins host Commanders in NFL’s first game in Spain, played in Real Madrid’s stadium.

The Miami Dolphins will host the Washington Commanders in the first NFL regular-season game in Spain in 2025, the NFL announced today.

The game will take place at the Bernabeu Stadium, the iconic home of the soccer club Real Madrid.

The Washington Commanders have been selected to play the Miami Dolphins at Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid, Spain, in Week 11 as part of the NFL's 2025 International Games.

It will be the first-ever regular season NFL game played in the country. Kickoff time is set for 9:30am ET on Sun., Nov. 16 with the game being televised on NFL Network.

It is the franchise's second international game since the NFL began playing games overseas. The first matchup came in 2016 against the Cincinnati Bengals, which resulted in a 27-27 tie.

The Commanders, which finished the 2024 season with a 12-5 record and a trip to the NFC Championship, have become one of the most popular teams in the NFL thanks to head coach Dan Quinn and general manager Adam Peters' leadership. They used the No. 2 overall pick in 2024 to select quarterback Jayden Daniels, who went on to set multiple team and league records. Daniels was named the Offensive Rookie of the Year for putting up more than 5,000 yards of total offense.

The Commanders' season peaked with a trip to Philadelphia to play the Eagles in the NFC Championship game -- a game they had not played in since the 1991 season -- but the franchise had already ignited its fan base with several thrilling games, like their 17-15 win over the Chicago Bears, which ended with a Hail Mary pass from Daniels to Noah Brown, and an upset win over the No. 1-seeded Detroit Lions.

The Dolphins, who in January were selected as the host team, will play overseas for the sixth time in their franchise's history. They are coming off an 8-9 season in 2024 that saw them win six of their last nine games. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa led the league with a 72.9% completion rate, although he only played in 11 games and was 6-5 as a starter.
