WNBA Kicks Off 30th Season with Opening Weekend Action

The WNBA launches its 30th season on Friday, May 8, 2026, with WNBA Tip-Off 2026 presented by CarMax, featuring a full slate of opening games across the league.

Friday, May 8 highlights the debut of the Toronto Tempo, who host the Washington Mystics at 7:30 p.m. ET, while the New York Liberty take on the Connecticut Sun (7:30 p.m. ET). The Golden State Valkyries, last season the first WNBA expansion team to reach the playoffs in its inaugural season, visit the Seattle Storm at 10:00 p.m. ET.

Saturday, May 9 features high-profile matchups:

Dallas Wings visit Indiana Fever at 1:00 p.m. ET, pitting top young stars Paige Bueckers and Caitlin Clark against each other.

Las Vegas Aces host Phoenix Mercury at 3:30 p.m. ET in a rematch of last season’s WNBA Finals.

Portland Fire return to the league, hosting the Chicago Sky at 9:00 p.m. ET.

The weekend continues Sunday, May 10, with five games including a marquee clash between the Minnesota Lynx and Atlanta Dream at 7:00 p.m. ET, a matchup of last season’s No. 1 and No. 3 playoff seeds.

The 2026 season is historic: two expansion teams, a 44-game schedule, and the WNBA’s signature Commissioner’s Cup running from June 1–17, with games counting toward regular-season standings. The season also includes a World Cup break (Sept. 4–13) and concludes Sept. 24, leading into the playoffs on Sept. 27.

Opening weekend sets the stage for rivalries, rookie debuts, and finals rematches, making the first days of the season a must-watch for fans.
