Dolphins score 70 points, most points in NFL game in 57 years

Miami Dolphins score 70 points vs records set, including most points in NFL game in almost 60 years since 1966

The Denver just allowed the Miami to score 70 points on Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium – three points shy of a new NFL regular-season record.

And Payton fell to 0-3 in his first season in Denver after taking over for Nathaniel Hackett, the coach he openly criticized before the season.

He even had a contentious exchange with a reporter, who pointed out the historic nature of the defeat as the Broncos also allowed 726 yards, the second-highest single-game total in NFL history.

The Broncos saw Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa throw four touchdown passes, while running backs Raheem Mostert and De’Von Achane each tallied four scores in the blowout. In all, Denver allowed Miami to score 10 touchdowns.

And the Dolphins gracefully kneeled the football instead of attempting a field goal to notch the NFL regular-season record for points in a game at 73.

Who has the Most Points in a Single Game: Record Set in 1966

  • The Washington Commanders hold the record for the highest NFL score by one team during the regular season.

  • Only the 1940 Bears and the 1966 Washington team scored more points in a single game.

They put up 72 points in a game against the New York Giants on Nov. 27, 1966, winning 72-41.

That mark beat the previous best of 70 set by the Los Angeles Rams in 1950 when they torched the Baltimore Colts 70-27.

Although, the 72 points is one shy of the 73 the Chicago Bears delivered on Washington in the NFL Championship of the 1940 season.
