The Houston Astros are one win away from the second-time MLB World Series champions in franchise history. The Astros holds off Philadelphia Phillies in Game 5 at Citizens Bank Park on Thursday night, Houston take a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven series.



The Astros, who previously won a controversial championship in 2017, were propelled to the verge of their second championship by late defensive standouts from Trey Mancini and Chas McCormick.

Pena's run-scoring single against Noah-Syndergaard gave Houston the lead after only four pitches. Then, Philadelphia's Kyle-Schwarber hit a leadoff home run, recalling the five-run advantage Verlander blew in Houston's opening 6-5, 10-inning defeat.

He stopped the Phillies in the third with a leaping catch at shortstop, and he reclaimed the lead with his fourth postseason home run in the fourth.
