  •  Alvarez’s majestic three-run homer helped The Houston Astros won their second-ever World Series title as they beat the Philadelphia Phillies 4-1 in Game 6 to helped them clinch the seven-game series 4-2.



Game six was scoreless until Kyle Schwarber hit a home run in the sixth inning, giving the Phillies the lead.

The Astros answered right back with a three-run homer from Yordan Alvarez, and Christian Vazquez drove in Alex Bregman to make it 4-1.

The Astros won with the help of an ecstatic home crowd.


The first half of Saturday's game featured a pitching duel between Houston's Framber Valdez and Philadelphia's Zack Wheeler, who both started game two.

Left-hander Valdez dominated the Phillies, striking out nine batters, but the visitors struck first in the top of the sixth when Schwarber lifted Valdez over right field.

The Astros rallied to put two men on base before Phillies manager Rob Thomson replaced Wheeler with one of his key relievers, Jose Alvarado, when the tensions rose inside Minute Maid Park.



  • But Alvarez hit one of the biggest - and most important - home runs of his young career, hoisting Alvarado 450 feet over centre field to turn the game on its head.

  • In the ninth inning, Nick Castellanos grounded out to right fielder Kyle Tucker, completing the victory.
