The 31th edition of Sultan Azlan Shah Hockey Cup 2025 event was played in its traditional Venue in Ipoh, from November 23 to 30 in Malaysia, this year Hockey tournament has changes it traditional period from May to November.

There are Six teams participated in 2025 tournament, incl. hosts Malaysia, India, Japan, South Korea, Canada, Belgium in the 10-day tournament..

The Malaysian national hockey team made history when they lifted the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup trophy at home ground for the first time after defeating South Korea 3-2 in a tense final at the Sultan Azlan Shah Hockey Stadium, Ipoh.

The tournament will return after a one-year hiatus after it was postponed in 2023 due to the packed hockey calendar.

The Sultan Azlan Shah Cup was first played in 1983. It became an annual event in 2003.

The tournament will be played in a round-robin format, where all teams will meet each other once. The top two sides will qualify for the final on November 30. There will also be classification matches to determine the position of the other four teams.

Australia, who are not a part of the 2025 Sultan Azlan Shah Cup, have won the tournament 10 times, making them the most successful team in the competition’s history.

Japan claimed their maiden title by winning the 2024 Sultan Azlan Shah Cup last year. They are also not featuring in the 2025 edition of the tournament.
