Harper powers Phillies past Padres to first World Series since 2009

MLB playoffs 2022: Philadelphia Phillies beats San Diego Padres in Game 5, Advance to World Series for first time since 2009..

  • $330 million Bag-Boy Bryce Harper backbone for the Phillies postseason party on the ground as Philadelphia about to begin for the National League champs.

For the first time since 2009, the Philadelphia Phillies are going to the World Series. In Game 5, the San Diego Padres attempted to spoil the fun in Philadelphia by rallying from behind to take the lead in the eighth inning. Bryce Harper then materialised.

Citizens Bank Park became a madhouse when Harper hit his fifth playoff home run, a two-run rocket in the eighth inning, and the $330 million slugger helped the Phillies defeat the San Diego Padres 4-3 in game 5 on Sunday.

Thanks to Harper's two-run home run, the Phillies won Game 5 4-3 and the series 4-1. For the first time in 13 years, they won the National League pennant, and they will take on either the Houston Astros or the New York Yankees in the World Series.

Just One Single shot against the opposite Field. The Phillies & fans pleaded with Bryce to come through in the clutch just once more as he stepped to the bat in the eighth inning, and one game-winning home drive almost looked inevitable from the moment he walked to the plate.

Harper, who turned 30 last week, is batting 439 (18 for 41) with six doubles, five homers, 11 RBIs and 10 runs scored over 11 postseason games. He has hit in 10 straight and has reached base in 11 straight.

Philadelphia finished third in the NL East at 87-75, a full 14 games behind the 101-win Braves this season, and were the last club in the majors to make the 12-team playoff field.

Now, Philadelphia Phillies are Current National League champions. This is their eighth pennant, joining 1915, 1950, 1980, 1983, 1993, 2008 and 2009.

The Phillies were the heavy underdogs against the Cardinals, Braves and Padres and here they are in the World Series first time in 13 years..
