  • The 15th edition of the Asia Cup is just around the corner as it is set to begins on August 27, 2022, in the UAE. Six teams will participate to be crowned the champions of Asian Cricket.



The Asia Cup 2022 tournament will be in the T20I format in order for the teams to prepare for the 2022 T20 World Cup scheduled in October.

This Historic Asian Cricket Cup made its debut in the year 1984 when India became the first winner of Asia Cup. Since then, the Asian Cricket giants, Blues have won the Most titles a record seven times, Sri Lanka five, and Pakistan on two occasions.

Most runs –   Former Sri Lanka legendary batter Sanath Jayasuriya has struck the most runs in Asia Cup tournaments. The Sri Lankan scored 1220 runs at an average of 53.04 with 6-centuries & 3-fifties.


Best individual score –   Virat Kohli had hammered the Most runs in the Asia Cup, 183 off 148 with the help of 22 fours and a six against rivals Pakistan in the run-chase of 330 in Mirpur in 2012.


Most wickets –   Sri Lankan legend, spinner Muthiah Muralitharan tops this list of most wickets in the Asia Cup series. He gets 30 wickets at an average of 28.83 with an economy rate of just 3.75 in 24 innings.


Best bowling Figures –    Sri Lankan spinner Ajantha Mendis thrashed India in 2008 final when he took figures of 6/13 to completely tear apart the Indians.


Highest Team total –   Pakistan have smashed the highest total in the 50-overs, Greens hammered 385/7 against Bangladesh in Dambulla in 2010 Best Batting attack from Shahid Afridi who scored 124 off just 60 which included 17 fours and four Sixs.


Lowest Team total –   Bangladesh suffered the lowest total in Asia Cups for just 87 in 34.2 overs against Pakistan in Dhaka in the year 2000, Chasing a massive target of 321.


Most Player of the Match awards –   Jayasuriya, Former Lankan captain grabbed the Most Player of the Match awards five times in Asia Cup history which is the most by any player.

Most runs –    Hong Kong’s Babar Hayat has struck the most runs in Asia Cup T20 tournament, 194 runs in just 3-innings at an average of 64.66.


Best individual score –    India’s Rohit Sharma holds the record for the highest individual score in Asia Cup T20I Tournament. He mustered 83 off just 55 deliveries against Bangla Tigers in 2016


Most wickets –    Amjad Javed, UAE, has taken the most wickets in the competition. In seven innings, He earned 12 wickets at an average of 14.08 with an economy rate of 7.34, best figures of 3/25.


Best bowling Figures –    Sri Lanka, Malinga delivered a match-winning spell of 4/26 against UAE in four overs in 2016 tournament.


Highest Team total –    India registered the highest total of 166/6 against Bangladesh in the competition.


Lowest Team total –    UAE have recorded the lowest total in the tournament’s history, Only posted 81/9 in allotted 20 overs against India in 2016 Asia Cup.


Most Player of the Match awards –     India duo of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have won the Player of the Match awards two times each in 2016 Asia Cup. .
