Orlando Magic selects Paolo Banchero No. 1 pick in 2022 NBA draft

NBA Draft 2022: Orlando Magic make Duke's Paolo Banchero No. 1 pick on Thursday night at Barclays Center..









Following months of rumours, the Orlando Magic selected Duke's Paolo Banchero as the first overall choice in the 2022 NBA Draft on Thursday night at Barclays Center.


After an interesting 2021-22 season that came to an end last week when the Golden State Warriors defeated the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals 2022 for their fourth title in the last eight years,


With the second pick in a competitive first round, the Oklahoma City Thunder selected centre Chet Holmgren from Gonzaga. They subsequently traded with the New York Knicks to obtain France's Ousmane Dieng at pick 11, then selected Jalen Williams from Santa Clara at pick 12.

The Houston Rockets selected Auburn forward Jabari Smith Jr. third overall.



For the Blue Devils, who made it to the Final Four before succumbing to their enduring rival North Carolina, 6-foot-10 forward Banchero averaged 17.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 3.2 assists over 39 games.

Holmgren, a 7-footer from Gonzaga, showed off a variety of abilities in his lone season of college basketball. He averaged 14.1 points on 60 percent shooting from the field and 39 percent from 3-point range while also pulling down 9.9 rebounds and blocking 3.7 shots in 26.9 minutes per game over 32 games.



Smith, a 6-foot-10 forward from Auburn with a beautiful shooting stroke, averaged 16.9 points and 7.4 rebounds while shooting 42 percent from outside the arc.
