Kings' Mike Brown named 2023 NBA Coach of the Year award

Sacramento Kings coach Mike Brown has won the 2022-23 NBA Coach of the Year award, COTY Winners list since 1963..

– Sacramento Kings head coach Mike Brown is the recipient of the Red Auerbach Trophy as he named the 2022-23 NBA Coach of the Year award winner, the NBA announced.

Brown helped guide the Kings to their first playoff appearance in 16 seasons and was always the favorite for this award once it became clear Sacramento would make the playoffs.

  • Brown led the Kings to their first playoff berth since 2006, ending the longest playoff drought in NBA history.

  • It’s the second time Brown has won the award. He previously received the honor in 2009 as the Cleveland Cavaliers head coach.

The Kings (48-34) finished the season as the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference and currently are leading the Golden State Warriors two games to none in the best-of-seven first-round playoff series.

The Kings led the NBA in scoring (120.7), were second in field goal percentage (49.4) and third in assists per game (27.3).

The Kings are in the playoffs for just the eleventh time in the 38 years since the franchise moved to Sacramento in 1985.

Brown helped to unlock the All-Star point guard De'Aaron Fox, who won the Clutch Player of the Year award earlier, and completely shifted the culture of a team that now expects to compete for a championship.

Brown has compiled a 395-250 career coaching record.

Last Year Winner: – Phoenix Suns head coach Monty Williams is the recipient of the Red Auerbach Trophy as the 2021-22 NBA Coach of the Year award.
This is the first NBA Coach of the Year Award for Williams, who joins Cotton Fitzsimmons (1988-89) and Mike D’Antoni (2004-05) as head coaches to earn the honor with the Suns.
