Official: Jose Mourinho sacked after 17 months as Tottenham head

Tottenham Hotspur sacked Jose Mourinho from Head coach Duty.

Jose Mourinho has been sacked just after 17 months as Tottenham Hotspur head coach.

Appointed in place of Mauricio Pochettino in November 2019, the experienced manager guided Spurs to a Europa League spot in his first season despite a host of injuries to key players.

They are currently seventh, having picked up two points from their past three league games, and were knocked out of the Europa League in March.

Spurs face Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final on 25 April.

Tottenham Hotspur Official Statement about sacking the Jose Mourinho.

The Spurs Club can today announced that,,,

Jose Mourinho and his coaching staff Joao Sacramento, Nuno Santos, Carlos Lalin and Giovanni Cerra have been relieved of their duties.

Chairman, Daniel Levy, said: "Jose and his coaching staff have been with us through some of our most challenging times as a Club. Jose is a true professional who showed enormous resilience during the pandemic. On a personal level I have enjoyed working with him and regret that things have not worked out as we both had envisaged. He will always be welcome here and we should like to thank him and his coaching staff for their contribution."

Ryan Mason will take First Team training today and a further update will follow in due course.

The search has now begun for a permanent successor to Mourinho.

RB Leipzig boss Julian Nagelsmann has been identified as the favourite to take over.

Tottenham have been long-term admirers of Nagelsmann, who is widely deemed as one of the most talented young coaches in world football.
