30,000 fans permitted to Enter 2021 Australian Open match Day

Australian Open 2021 to permit the presence of up to 30,000 fans per day.



Up to 30,000 spectators a day will be able to join the Australian Open, Victoria's Minister of Sport reported.


A daily crowd capacity of 30,000 will be allowed for the first eight days of the tournament, divided evenly between day and night sessions.


That will then be limited to 25.000 in the quarter-finals-half of the total attendance of previous years.


At the beginning of January, more than 1,700 players, staff and others connected to the first Grand Slam of the year flew into the country on charter flights.

Most players were allowed out of their rooms for five hours a day to practice court and workout, and 72 players were entirely confined to their rooms after Coronavirus cases were found in their rooms.

"Over the 14 days, it means we will have up to 390,000 people here at Melbourne Park, about 50% of the average over the past few years," said Martin Pakula. 

"Rod Laver Arena will have incredible atmosphere, not that different to the atmosphere we've seen at all the Opens in the years past. 

"It will not be the same … but it will be the most significant international event with crowds that the world has seen in many, many months."
