Indy 500 purse, payout breakdown, history: How much prize money does the winner get in 2020?






The Indy 500 in 2020 was going to award the winner more money than ever from a record $15 million purse.


Takuma Sato became a two-time winner of the Indy 500, outdueling five-time NTT IndyCar Series champion Scott Dixon for the victory Sunday as the race ended under caution at Indianapolis Motor Speedway -  2020 Indy 500.

Sato, who also won the 2017 Indianapolis 500, took the lead from Dixon on Lap 157 just before both made their final pit stops under green.


 According to Racer Magazine, the lack of Indy 500 ticket sales alone takes at least $20 million away from the track's earnings due to COVID-19 pandemic broke out in the United States. So Penske had to cut the Indy 500 purse in half, from $15 million to $7.5 million.

 What is the Indy 500 purse, payout and How much does the Indy 500 winners get in 2020?



 Indy 500 purse is $7.5 million,  2020 Indy 500 payout would be reduced to $7.5 million due mostly to the track's inability to host fans, the last year payout 2019 was $13,090,536 million.


 It's the lowest total purse since 1991 and the smallest amount for the winner since 2003.

 Indy 500 purse is  $7,502,500 and 2020 winners gets the Prize money share of $1,370,500 million.

 The all-time highest Indy 500 purse came in 2008 ($14,406,580), with the highest winnings for the victor registering a year later in 2009 for Helio Castroneves' third win ($3,048,005). Sato earned $2,458,129 in his previous Indy 500 win in 2017 with Andretti Autosport, part of a $13,178,359 purse.
