The US Men's National team will play against the Canada men's national teams and Cuba in group play in the top tier of the inaugural CONCACAF Nations League draw held in Las Vegas.
Only the four group winners in League A will qualify to the CONCACAF Nations League championship. The runner-up team in each group will be assigned to League B.
The CNL group stage matches will be played in the FIFA international match windows in September, October and November 2019.
The six total round-robin group matches -- the three teams will face each other home and away -- will be played in September, October and November 2019, while the championship round featuring the four group winners from League A will take place in 2020.
Mexico is the top-ranked CONCACAF team in the FIFA rankings at No. 17, compared to No. 25 for the U.S., No. 37 for Costa Rica and No. 63 for Honduras.
Canada is currently ranked No. 79 while Cuba is No. 174.
The 68-match qualifying round also earned 2019 Gold Cup berths for the top 10 in qualifying: Haiti, Canada, Martinique, Curacao, Bermuda, Cuba, Guyana, Jamaica, Nicaragua and El Salvador. They will join Costa Rica, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Trinidad and Tobago, and the U.S. in the expanded 16-team field.
The groups and schedule will be announced on April 10 in Los Angeles.
How Concacaf Nations League Draw Works for Leagues.?
League A of the Nations League consists of 4 pools of 3 with the winner of each group advanced to the tournament semifinals. The lower team in each group will be demoted to League B for the next edition of the tournament.
League B has four groups of four teams. The group winners will be promoted to League A while the bottom team in each pool will go down to League C.
League C is consists of three groups of three teams and one group of four. The group winners will be promoted to League B.
The Concacaf Nations League draw also sorted the 16 teams in League B and the 13 nations in League C. The top teams from each group in League B, and League C will win promotion to League A and League B, respectively. The bottom team in each League B group will be demoted to League C.
