The 147th edition of British Open or simply The Open is the third major in the PGA Tour ahead of US Open Golf, PGA Championship, held annually mid-July.

The 2018 Open Championship will be taking place from  19th July – 22 July 2018 at Carnoustie Golf Links in Angus, Scotland. The eighth Open Championship played at Carnoustie.

The Open Championship is a four-round, 72-hole stroke play competition, with a cut after 36 holes. There are 156 players in the field.

Jordan Spieth won the 2017 Open Championship at Royal Birkdale in Southport, England, with a 72-hole total of 12-under 268.

This year's 2018 British Open will boast a $10.8 million prize fund and $1.89 million winner's share. The last year's 2017 Open championship purse was of $10.25 million and winners share was $1.85 million.

 The runner-up at Carnoustie will take home $1,089,000, with third place gets the prize money $701,000. Players finishing inside the top 21 will earn six-digit payouts.
