Mercedes-AMG took victory in a classic Bathurst 12 Hour race on Sunday, beating rapid rivals, crashes and kangaroos to snatch the chequered flag.
The Team GMR machine driven by Maro Engel, Mikael Grenier and Maxime Martin finished ahead of the High Class Racing Porsche of Dorian Boccolacci, Anders Fjordbach and Kerong Li, and the Team WRT BMW M4 of Valentino Rossi, Augusto Farfus and Raffale Marciello.
Victory was particularly special for Engel, coming on his 10th attempt at the Bathurst 12 Hour.
The German racer, who holds a close affinity for Australia following a stint in V8 Supercars, came agonisingly close to Bathurst victory on several occasions before securing victory.
The SuperCars Season Opner race in Mount Panorama Race was attended by a record crowd of more than 55,000 people.

The best of world and Australian sportscar stars have descended on Bathurst for the once-around-the-clock classic, with a whopping 31 GT3 entered in the race.
11 Supercars drivers are taking on the race, with Tickford Racing star Cam Waters claiming pole position.
Australia's International Enduro commences at 5:45am local time on Sunday.

Track action runs across February 13-15, with the showpiece race commencing at 5:45am local time on Sunday and runs ad break free during racing to 6:00pm, with every angle covered throughout the 12 hour race.

The No.46 BMW of Rossi, currently driven by Augusto Farfus, made an extra-ordinary start on the opening lap!
Farfus has gone from 7th to 4th at the end of the opening lap. An electric start from the Brazilian.
Max Goetz leads the way in the No.77 Mercedes, ahead of the No.222 Mercedes which lost the lead at the start.
No.32 BMW has climbed up the order early on, they've gone from 12th to 9th in the opening few laps, with Kelvin van der Linde at the wheel

The No.86 First Class Porsche finishes second! And the No.46 rounds off the podium places!
The Porsche wins the Bronze class and second overall. It was piloted by Dorian Boccolacci, Anders Fjordbach and Kerong Li.They started 30th and brilliant strategy and driving brought them up to second overall. It is a podium finish yet again for the No.46 crew of Augusto Farfus, Raffaele Marciello and Valentino Rossi.
