UFC 268: Usman retains title win over Covington, Full Results

UFC 268 Full Card results, Takeaways: Kamaru Usman retains title with points win over Colby Covington.

Kamaru Usman once again defended his UFC welterweight title after a five-round war with the most divisive man in the sport, Colby Covington, inside Madison Square Garden on Sunday.

Despite a heated build-up, Covington showed a surprising amount of self-restraint and gave Usman the respect he deserves after falling for a second time to the 170-pound champion, who now has 15 straight wins in the organisation after his UFC 268 triumph.

Usman dropped Covington twice in the second round, and looked in total control, before Covington found a way back into the fight to give the champion a bit of a scare. In the end, the judges scored the fight 49-46, 48-47, 48-47 in Usman’s favour.

In the co-main event, Rose Namajunas retained her strawweight belt after withstanding an early Zhang Weili assault to keep her title via unanimous decision in a competitve rematch.

It was Chandler who started the stronger of the two in an insane first round that felt like it lasted 20 minutes. But after surviving an early onslaught, it was Gaethje who was able to assert himself. Behind low kicks, uppercuts, and mean overhand rights, Gaethje took control; dropping Chandler in the second round.

Also on the main card, Shane Burgos proved too good for Billy Quarantillo, and Marlon Vera stopped Frankie Edgar late in the third round.
