England snatched the victory from Ireland's hands out for 38 to win the four-day Test by 143 runs and avoid being on the end of a stunning upset.
It was the third test match for Ireland, they were chasing 182 for a famous win, but unfortunately, pull down by Chris Woakes and Stuart Broad in perfect conditions for seam bowling.
In the damp and gloom and with the floodlights on at Lord's, Woakes swung the ball for 6-17 and Broad nipped it around for 4-19.
