 England snatched the victory from Ireland's hands out for 38 to win the four-day Test by 143 runs and avoid being on the end of a stunning upset.
It was the third test match for Ireland, they were chasing 182 for a famous win, but unfortunately, pull down by Chris Woakes and Stuart Broad in perfect conditions for seam bowling.

In the damp and gloom and with the floodlights on at Lord's, Woakes swung the ball for 6-17 and Broad nipped it around for 4-19.

 From England, it was a bowling performance that masked the deficiencies of their batsmen,
 85 Runs by England is the fifth-lowest total in the first innings of a Test resulting in a win. All four lower winning first-innings totals have come on or before 1907.


 36 all-out by Ireland is the seventh-lowest total in the history of Test cricket and the second-lowest in the post-war era (since 1945). The only lower total in the last 75 years of Test cricket was New Zealand's 26against England in Auckland in 1955.


 1 - This Test was the first instance of designated wicketkeepers from both sides - Jonny Bairstow and Gary Wilson - getting dismissed for a pair. There were nine instances of wicketkeepers combining for three blobs in a single Test match.
