2019 Africa Cup of Nations Draw: Egypt face Zimbabwe in Opening

 Africa Cup of Nations 2019: 24 teams, groups confirmed.





After Angola secured their place on Friday, and Burundi, Cameroon, Guinea-Bissau and Namibia the following day, the final five berths for the 2019 CAF African Cup of Nations were snapped up on Sunday 24 March by Zimbabwe, Congo DR, Benin, Tanzania, and South Africa.

At home win over Uganda 3-0 Tanzania finally secured their appearance at the continental AFCON championship 39 years after their one and only participation in 1980.

The 2019 Africa Cup of Nations will for the first time this year take place in the summer and feature 24 teams rather than sixteen.

The 2019 Africa Cup of Nations has been delayed to allow players to rest after the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

The four-week long event will now kick off on June 21 with the final set for July 19 instead of June 15 to July 13.


Nigeria’s Odion Ighalo top-scored during the qualifying campaign with seven goals, just behind him was Burundi striker Abdul Razak (six), who, at just 25, also became his country’s all-time leading scorer with 17 goals.
