Defending champions Australia will play opening match against Jorden, the 17th edition of AFC Asian Cup is taking place in the United Arab Emirates for the second time after 1996 finals.

For the first time, the 2019 AFC Cup tournament will feature the 24 teams expanded from 16, the group stage consisting of six groups of four teams, followed by a knockout stage of 16 teams. Top two teams will qualify for the round of 16 along with four best third-placed teams.

 The quarter-finals will be played on January 23rd and 24th respectively, while the semi-finals will be staged on27th and 28th Jan.

 In 2019 AFC Asian Cup Final winners will get their USD $ 5 million prize money, that will be played at the Zayed Sports City Stadium in Abu Dhabi on February 1, 2019.

 Australia is the defending champions going into the tournament, having won the previous competition in 2015. The winner of the 2019 AFC Asian Cup will earn the right to participate in the 2021 FIFA Confederations Cup which is to be hosted by a yet to be determined AFC association after 2022 FIFA World Cup hosts, Qatar, lost the rights.

The 2021 Confederations Cup host country will have already qualified as hosts. If this country wins the Asian Cup, the runner-up will qualify.

 AFC President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim has announced the total purse-cash value for the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 tournament is USD $14.8 million.
In which AFC Asian Cup 2019 winners will get their  USD $ 5 million prize money at the Zayed Sports City Stadium on February 1, 2019.
 In addition to the purse prize for the winners, the AFC has also announced the runners-up will receive USD$3 million, with the two losing semi-finalists get USD$1 million cash each. All 24 participating teams will also receive USD$200,000.
